INCA TRAIL 2 DAY HIKE

The Inca Trail 2 Day Hike is part of an ancient highway that connected Machu Picchu with Cusco. Today, most trekkers walk only a small section of the original Inca trail system to reach the Inca citadel. Back in time, this trail spanned about 5200 km (3200 miles), from Quito, Ecuador to Tucuman, Argentina.

Our short Inca Trail hike highlights many small Inca sites and stunning views along the way. You’ll enjoy amazing landscapes of the Andes, deep valleys, the lush vegetation of the cloud forest. Most importantly, you will experience the sunset and sunrise over Machu Picchu.

INCA TRAIL 2 DAY HIKE ITINERARY

DAY 1. - CUSCO TO AGUAS CALIENTES

We start the famous Inca Trail 2 Day Hike at 5:00 am. After that, we travel to Ollantaytambo train station for 2 hours. Once there, we’ll take the train and get off at Kilometer 104 to begin the short Inca Trail. Not long after, we arrive at the impressive Chachabamba archeological site. From here, the Inca Trail takes us for about three hours to the second attraction of Wiñaywayna.

This Incan construction has a spectacular view of the Urubamba valley (2700m/6900 ft.). Subsequently, we’ll have a lunch break and continue our ascent until we reach the Sun Gate. You’ll experience the first and unique view of Machu Picchu from this spot. Upon arrival, we’ll catch the bus to Aguas Calientes where we spend the night at the hotel.

DAY 2. - AGUAS CALIENTES—MACHU PICCHU—CUSCO

Today, our 2-day Inca Trail hike takes us back to Machu Picchu for a 2-hour guided tour. So, you can visit the most important groups of the fabled citadel of Machu Picchu. For instance, the Guard House, the Sun Temple, the royalty area, the Main Plaza, etc. During this private guided tour, you will have a chance to take group and personal pictures.

Later, the Inca Trail 2 day hike will give you an extra time to explore on your own. At agreed time, you will descend from the monument to eat lunch in Aguas Calientes.
