Trekking the Rainbow Mountain Cusco 2 days will start with a pick up from your hotel early in the morning. After that, we’ll drive for about three hours through the South Valley to arrive at the trailhead of Quesiuno (4326m/14,200ft). Once we reach the Inkintuyoc Bridge, our chef will cook an amazing breakfast.

After breakfast, we’ll meet our horse wranglers who will load the camping, cooking and other gear onto the horses. We’ll begin our ascent by a lovely stream, and you’ll see herds of alpacas and llamas. The sight of Ausangate Mountain will accompany us as we hike through remote villages and interact with the local residents. If you’re lucky, we’ll see cute chinchillas and vicunas. By the way, vicunas are the only non-domesticated animal of the llama family in Peru.

After a hike of 3 – 4 hours, we’ll reach our camp Ccayrabiri near the village of Llamachimpana. Our chef will make us a fantastic lunch. After lunch (time permitting), we will go to the village and visit with the residents. Many villagers only speak Quechua, and they enjoy telling trekkers about their local customs and history via a translator. We then return to camp where we’ll have happy hour and dinner. When night falls, we’ll star gaze and have a serene night´s sleep.

Our support team wakes us up with a cup of hot coca tea and the gorgeous sunrise. Our chef will prepare a nutritious breakfast to fuel our trek to our destination Rainbow Mountain. We’ll ascend for about 2-hours, passing stunning views of red mountains, the Ausangate glacier, and Surine Mountain.

Finally, we reach our destination, the Rainbow Mountain (5200 m/17056ft). The natural, vibrant colors are truly amazing. You’ll have free time to explore, take pictures and take it all in. We’ll enjoy approximately 30 minutes at the summit.

We’ll descend down the same trail for 4-5 hours, where private transportation and a delicious lunch will be waiting for us. It’s a 3-hour drive back to Cusco and we’ll drop you off at your Cusco hotel around 7:00 pm.
