MARAS AND MORAS HIKE TO MACHU PICCHU 2 DAYS ITINERARY
DAY 1.- MORAY HIKE TO SALT MINES
For the Maras and Moray Hike to Machu Picchu 2 days, we’ll pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am to go to the Sacred Valley. Our visit passes through the fertile plain of Chinchero. You’ll stroll down the narrow streets of Maras, seeing its fine examples of colonial doorways. We hike to the mysterious, circular Inca Terraces of Moray, which was an agricultural experimental center. You’ll have a picnic lunch there and have time to fully explore these fascinating ruins, experiencing first-hand its range of temperatures as you hike from the top to the bottom terraces.
We’ll descend to the Sacred Valley to see more than 3000 gleaming Salt Pans of Salineras which still produce natural salt to this day. We’ll take a bus to Ollantaytambo, catch the train to Aguas Calientes, and spend the night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes, the base village for Machu Picchu.
DAY 2.- MACHU PICCHU GUIDED TOUR
After an early breakfast at the hotel, you’ll take a 25-minute bus trip up to Machu Picchu. On arrival, your 2-hour guided tour begins. You’ll visit the most important places of the monument: the Guard house, Sun temple, and Royalty group, Main Plaza, Three Windows Temple, and the Sacred Sun Dial, among other attractions. All areas are connected by narrow paths and steps, so be prepared for a bit of walking.
At the end of the tour, you’ll have free time to explore the monument at your leisure. Hike to the Sun Gate (about 1-hour round trip). Alternatively, with previous reservations, you can climb Huaynapicchu Mountain with its magnificent view of the whole sanctuary. In the afternoon, you’ll take the train back to Ollantaytambo, and private transportation back to your hotel in Cusco.

HUAYNAPICCHU OR MACHU PICCHU MOUNTAIN ASCENTS
The Huaynapicchu peak ascent is limited to only 400 people per day, with one group of 200 at 7:00 am and the second group at 10:00 am. We recommend booking Huaynapicchu entrance tickets 3-4 months in advance. Once tickets are sold out, there is no chance to get them! Instead, you’ll have the option to climb the Machu Picchu Mountain for the same cost.
The ticket price to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain is $25.00 per person, which will be added to the total price of your package.
