DISCOVER ANCIENT PERU ITINERARY

DAY 1.- LIMA IN AND CITY TOUR

Upon your Arrival, reception and transfer to your selected hotel, chance to relax and child out before you begin the tour. In the afternoon, start the tour in a private transport with a great panoramic view. Lima presents three historical periods: Pre-Hispanic, Colonial and modern. The first imposing panoramic view of “Huaca Pucllana” (a 25 meters high pyramid made out of adobes), we visit the impressive Lima downtown its palaces, mansions, churches and squares, finishing with a visit to the residential and financial centers of San Isidro as well as Miraflores famous for its nice shopping mall called Larco Mar, which was built on a spectacular cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Return to your hotel and stay the night.

DAY 2.- BALLESTAS ISLANDS TOUR

We will pick you up at 3:00 am to head towards Paracas, where you will visit the sanctuary of animals. The Ballestas Islands is an exciting and fantastic wildlife sanctuary that is filled with wild birds and mammals, including sea lions, fur seals, and endangered Humboldt penguins. During this two hour boat tour you will come face-to-face with these animals in their natural habitation while you are onboard a speedboat. On rare occasions, it is even possible to see dolphins and whales. Obviously, this tour is a spectacular choice for animal lovers and birdwatchers. In the afternoon, you will board the bus for your travel to the city of Nazca. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel.

DAY 3.- NAZCA LINES OVERFLIGHT

After your breakfast, you will be transfered to the local airport where you will start your tour of the Nazca Lines.

The lines consist of geometric designs and pictures engraved in the ground, dividing a wide area of flat desert. Some of the lines measure up to 10 km. in length, and yet remain entirely straight. The portrayal of birds, insects and animals are only noticeable from the air. Who drew the lines, why and what for is something unknown that archaeologists can only theorize about, but current beliefs suggest that they may be part of a complex agricultural calendar. The flight takes about half an hour, from the air you will be able to appretiate all the geometric glyphs such as: monkeys, spiders, hummingbirds, etc. Return to Lima and transfer back to your hotel.

DAY 4.- AREQUIPA IN AND CITY TOUR

Upon arrival, reception and transfer to your selected hotel. In the afternoon take a guided tour to Santa Catalina Monastery, Plaza de Armas, the Jesuit Church “La Compañia”, its cloisters and domes, the Tristan del Pozo House,Yanahuara neighborhood (vantaje point and Church), having an amazing view of the typical suburbs of Yanahuara and Carmen. Overnight in Arequipa.

DAY 5.- TRAVEL TO COLCA VALLEY

We leave Arequipa in the morning, taking a scenic bus drive to Yura, climbing up towards the National Reserve of Pampa Cañahuas, which is situated at 3,800 m.a.s.l. Here, groups of alpacas, vicuñas and sometimes guanacos can be seen. After driving several hours, the group descends into the Colca Valley until we arrive at Chivay, where we will spend the night at the hotel, and also relax at the hot springs of La Calera.

DAY 6.- COLCA CANYON TOUR AND NIGHT BUS TO PUNO

Shortly after our breakfast, we will continue our bus journey in order to reach the Cruz del Condor viewpoint. This is the right place to enjoy the flight of condors and views into the mighty canyon’s depths. In the afternoon, we will return to Arequipa and to the hotel.

We will have some time to pack our bags and head to the bus terminal to catch the night bus to travel to Puno.

DAY 7.- TITICACA FLOATING ISLANDS TOUR

Today enjoy your nutritious breakfast, and take a full-day tour by motor boat to the legendary island of Uros and Taquile on Lake Titicaca. A visit to Uros the first floating islands made out of reeds before continuing to Taquile, where residents of this self-supporting island will welcome you and show their unique ancient traditions and customs. Lunch will be served at the local restaurant in Taquile with a great panoramic view of the lake. Return to your hotel in Puno.

DAY 8.- TRAVEL TO CUSCO AND VISIT ATTRACTIONS EN ROUTE

Today, you will take an exceptional bus trip from Puno city to Cusco, traversing the “Altiplano” highlands slowly ascending up La Raya pass over 4,312 meters above sea level, and then descending down to Cusco City through a very scenic and impressive valley. On the way we have a chance visit to ruins, churches, and other impressive sites that are not available in regular bus services. Reception and transfer to your selected hotel.

DAY 9.- CUSCO CITY TOURS

Today you will have a chance to spend the morning, visiting the main square, markets and tipycal Inca streets. In the afternoon at 1:00 pm, we start the guided tour around the City, where you will have the opportunity to visit different Inca contructions, such as “Qoricancha Temple” (gold enclosure), place that has in its interior many buildings with religious functions to worship different deities of the Inca time. Then, the tour moves to the suburbs of the city in order to visit the sumptuous Sacsayhuamán (satisfied falcon), majestic place with impressive works in stone. Just to 200 mts of Sacsayhuaman is located our next destination: Q’enqo (zigzag) religious center dedicated to worship and perform religious ceremonies. Our next visits, located approximately 10 minutes by bus from Q’enqo. Puca Pucara also called as (red fortress) that was used as military and control point center. Our last destination, located at only 100 mts. from Puca Pucara. Tambomachay (lodging place) was used as a center of adoration and worship to the water.In the evening, stay the night at your Cusco hotel.

DAY 10.- SACRED VALLEY TOUR AND TRAVEL TO AGUAS CALIENTES

Take a day guided tour to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, located between Pisaq and Ollantaytambo. It is a fertile valley that was chosen by the first Inca emperors of Cusco to cultivate crops such as maize, quinoa, etc. Visit the village of Pisac, founded during colonial times. On Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, local Quechuan people barter their products in the main square and artisans from around the area sell their hand-made Alpaca and Llama textiles as well as jewelry. On Sundays, it is also the meeting place for the Varayoq and the local residents from all the villages in the region, dressed in their traditional costumes to attend morning mass. After an hour bus ride, we make a stop in Urubamba for our buffet lunch, and then a visit to Ollantaytambo, where we will enjoy the beautiful setting and the temple of the sun as well as the bath of the princess among others.

In the afternoon, we will be transferred to the train station for boarding the train to Aguas Calientes. Following the course of the river down the Sacred Valley, you’ll arrive to Aguas Calientes where you’ll be met and taken to the Hotel. You’ll have the evening free to recognize the small town as well as its hot springs and enjoy your time.

DAY 11.- GUIDED TOUR OF MACHU PICCHU

Peru Travel 7 days takes you to know the new seven wonder of Machu Picchu, Waking up early your guide will meet you at the hotel in order to take the bus up to Machu Picchu, which takes about 25 minutes ride and drop you off at the entrance. You will receive a guided tour of Machu Picchu, visiting the most important sectors with your guide. The tour takes about 2 hours, at about 11:00 you’ll have plenty of free time to explore the ruins by yourselves. In the afternoon you will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes (25 minutes) where you can have your quick lunch and head to the train station for your travel to Ollantaytambo.

The train back to Ollantaytambo departs from Aguas Calientes which is the nearest town to Machu Picchu. The train departs at 18:30pm (train times can vary depending on ticket availability) and you’ll be back in Cusco about 10:00pm. Our return is arranged by train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo where you will be picked up and transported back to Cusco.

DAY 12.- MORAY AND SALT MINES TOUR

We enjoy our breakfast before we begin the tour in our private transport to the Incan site of Salineras and Moray. The typical Spanish Village of Maras is situated one hour from Cusco and 7 km from Moray, we will pass and go towards the northwest of the village, where we can find the famous Salineras or salt mines. There are approximately 3000 small pans by an average area of approximately 5 m, constructed in a side of the inclination of the mountain of “Qaqawiñay”, which during the dry or winter season are filled with salty water that comes from a natural spring located at the upper part of the pools, it will gradually get solid once the water gets evaporated. This process will continue approximately for one month up to obtaining a considerable volume of solid salt, of approximately 10 cms height from the floor, which later is collected and packed for its distribution and sale to the markets of the region.

Moray consists of natural gigantic circular holes in the surface of the ground that is situated at 3,450 m very close to Chinchero. The Inca Civilization constructed in its contours of this area massive farming terraces or agricultural platforms with their respective irrigation canals. Its climatic conditions and other characteristics, makes this site very important center for domestication, acclimatization and hybridization of vegetable, wild plants that were modified or adapted for the human consumption.

In the afternoon, we will return to Cusco, where you will enjoy your lunch and spend your free time.

DAY 13.- RAINBOW MOUNTAIN TOUR

Visit the Rainbow Mountain in a challenging day hike. You’ll see quaint villages, beautiful adobe houses, herds of llamas and alpacas, plus magnificent views of the Ausangate glacier (6385m/21,000ft.), the highest mountain in the Cusco region. With its unsurpassed beauty and power, this is an excellent trip for trekkers who love a true outdoor adventure.

DAY 14.- SOUTH VALLEY TOUR

Our journey starts at 9:00 am and head off to the south of Cusco, following the road that goes to Puno. Along this road we will pass many villages, for instance, Huasao also known as sorcerers home, and then we continue to visit the Incan complex of Tipon. Soon after, we will continue our scenic bus drive, this time to visit the pre-Incan complex of Pikillaqta and finally the 16th century colonial church of Andahuaylillas. Free choice for lunch to taste guinea pig in Tipon or Chicharron (fried pork meat) in Saylla.

DAY 15.- TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT

At indicated time, assistance to the airport and continue with your holidays.
